Timpanogos Sunrise is an orchestral piece that I wrote while I was studying orchestration at Berklee College of Music. I live very near a mountain called Mount Timpanogos. It majestically rises to more than 11,000 feet and is snow covered about half the year. Occasionally, I am able to catch the sunrise on the mountain and it is an awe inspiring and beautiful sight! That was the inspiration for this piece. There isn't really much of a program to the piece, just expressions of my feelings as I viewed the sunrise and eventually had to move on with my day.
The piece is for full orchestra:
- 2 Flutes, Piccolo, 2 Oboes, English Horn, 2 Clarinets in Bb, 2 Bassoons
- 4 Horns, 2 Trumpets in Bb, 2 Trombones, Bass Trombone, Tuba
- Timpani, Percussion, Harp
