After the Rain

After the Rain was composed as a companion piece to Some Rain Must Fall Together, the set is entitled, A Rainy Day. Both pieces explore the symbolism and deeper meanings of rain.

After the Rain focuses on the beauty and cleansing that comes as a result of the rain, and compares it to the refinement and cleansing that can come to us personally as we emerge from our own storms and allow hope and brightness back into our lives. That focus provides a balance and a welcome release from the dark and dreary feel of Some Rain Must Fall, leaving the listener with a scene of calmness and relief.

Some Rain Must Fall and After the Rain, along with Snowflakes, were written during a time when my family and I were dealing with the after effects of a terrible tragedy. Composing these pieces and hearing them performed, as well as how they affected others, were a very important part of my healing process.

Although Some Rain Must Fall and After the Rain were conceived as companion pieces, either can be performed without the other.
