Hello there! I'm Lane

Composing and arranging has been a central part of my life for over 40 years. I especially enjoy creating inspiring and accessible choral music.

For me, creating music is about providing opportunities for performers, audiences, and aspiring composers to have life-changing experiences of their own.

How It All Started

Over 40 years ago, I wrote my very first arrangement for my high school choir. We recorded it onto a record album, and I was hooked! Looking back, that arrangement had plenty of amateur mistakes, but I’ll forever be grateful to a choir director who overlooked the flaws, praised my effort, and encouraged me to keep writing.

After earning my composition degree and teaching certificate, I taught junior high and high school choral music before transitioning into software development as my primary day job. But true to my high school teacher’s encouragement, I never stopped writing.

My choral works have since been featured at national and regional ACDA conventions, published through conventional publishers as well as self-published here on this site, and performed by choirs around the world.

A Dream Come True

Not long after graduating, I had a dream of hearing my music performed by the Tabernacle Choir. I felt compelled to write a piece for men’s voices called Awake, My Sons, Awake. I shared it with the assistant conductor, and it was soon scheduled for performance on their weekly broadcast and at General Conference.

Having my compositions and arrangements performed either by the Tabernacle Choir, or performed at General Conference over the years has truly been a dream come true.

Healing Through Music

In November of 2000, our family suffered a tragic loss. In the difficult years that followed, writing choral music became a profound source of personal healing. Poignant pieces like Mine Arm is Lengthened Out, Snowflakes, Some Rain Must Fall, and After the Rain were born out of that season.

I’ve seen firsthand that inspiring messages paired with music can reach people in ways no other medium can. Hearing from directors and singers over the years that my music helped them through their own hard times is the biggest reason I can't help writing more.

"Keep the music going, flowing from your heart..."
